The
Fulton Fish Market will be moving to Hunts Point, Bronx, sometime
this year. Joe of JoeNYC
decided to document the last days of the fish market before it goes
away, I got to tag along with him on his first excursion to the
Fish Market.
Joe's photos
can be seen here
After a fun and mild weather wednesday morning of photography, I
returned the next morning by myself to capture more of the market.
(Thursday morning was stupid cold.)
The following gallery are the selects from Wednesday and Thrusday
morning at Fulton Fish Market from 4am to 7am.
According to many of the fish mongers we talked to, the early 2005
move date has been pushed back to mid 2005 due to issues with the
new Bronx location (May/June), so there's still time to go take
photos before this piece of NYC history goes away.
The best time to go is Monday and Thursday mornings, 3 to 7 am,
this is when they are the busiest. Just watch out for all the
forklifts zipping around in the dark!
Much thanks to JoeNYC for doing all the footwork on the research
and inviting me to tag along. We have plans to return for more documentation.
Enjoy.
